What to Expect from Professional Packers

Professional packers will take care of most of the heavy lifting. However, you do need to be on hand for instructions on where things go and what needs to be packed together. We’ve put together some tips on what to expect when you use a professional packing service.

For your upcoming move, plan to hire a packing service to reduce the stress of moving. You might expect that the packers will do everything, and you can sit back and relax. Still, they will need guidance prior to beginning. This is what you can expect from your moving service.

Your Professional Packing Team

Prior to your packing team arriving, remove the items that will not be moved. Some people call the process purging. Plan ahead and go through each room. You can sort by categories like donate, garage sale, or recycling. Items that you plan to transport yourself should be set aside and clearly labeled so the team won’t pack them. It’s best to pack sentimental items yourself before the packers arrive. Place your remotes, HDMI cables, and cords in a zip-locking plastic back and label the bag. If you have items that should be packed together, placing them with each other can help ensure they stay together. However, the crew will pack all items to maximize space, so expect that there will be some hunting for items.

Packing service providers typically provide the materials like boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts. If you have additional items to pack that weren’t included in the original estimate, contact the company before packing day. This will ensure the packers bring enough supplies to pack the additional household goods.

You should have instructions prepared for when the packers arrive. Go through each room and explain which items should be packed together. Talk to the packers about which rooms the items will go to in the new residence. Label fragile items clearly and separate them for easy identification. Let them know where to pack the bag of cords. You will most likely need that bag accessible when you start unpacking. You’ll be glad you did when it’s time to relax after unpacking.

Packing the Furniture

You may also have your full-service packers pack the furniture too. Any furniture that needs to be disassembled will be done by the packers. Moving blankets are wrapped and secured around to the furniture during the mover to protect against nicks and scratches. Even though the movers do a lot to protect your furniture, items sometimes get damaged in transit. Take pictures of your furniture before and after the move to verify any damage.

You can opt to have the crew unpack your boxes at the new home. They will unbox and set out your household items, but you will need to do the organizing. You may find your items spread out throughout your new home because the team will pack in order to maximize space rather than focus on organization. After unpacking all the boxes and unwrapping your furniture, the packing team will remove all the boxes and packing materials.
