What to Expect from Professional Packers

Professional Packing Services

Professional packing services may seem like a luxury. However, when you consider the valuables that you need to safely relocate to a new home, hiring professional packers to protect your treasures makes sense. This includes preparing large appliances and large, heavy furniture for the move.

What to Expect from a Packing Service

For your upcoming move, you plan to hire a packing service to alleviate some of the stress of relocating. For many people, there is an expectation that the packers will do everything. You simply stay out of their way and let them work. While they will do the heavy lifting, you will need to provide guidance before they start and perhaps during the move. Let’s review what you can expect from your professional movers.

Prior to the packing team’s arrival, you will need to purge those items that will not be relocated to the new residence. You can recycle or donate them. Or you can earn a little extra cash by holding a garage sale.

Set Aside Items That You Will Transport Yourself

Items that you want to transport in your own vehicle should be out of the way. Perhaps have them already in the car, or put them in the garage with very clear labels so the packing team skips over them. In general, you want only those items visible that the team will be packing. Once they get started, they can be quick and methodical. They may inadvertently pack items meant to be transported in your car.

Place your HDMI cables, remotes, and electronics cords into individual bags with clear labels. If you have items that need to stay together, place them together to help the movers know to box them up together. The professional packers will pack to maximize all the space. Be prepared to do a little hunting when unpacking.

What to Expect from a Packing Service

Our packing services will provide boxes, tape, paper, and bubble wrap. The crew will have enough materials based on the estimates from the agent. If you have additional items that were not included in the original estimate, call the company ahead of packing day to make the adjustments to the estimate. You won’t be surprised by additional charges, and the packers will know to bring the right amount of materials to ensure a safe move.

When the professional packers arrive, you will need to provide them with instructions. It’s important to take time and walk through each room with them. Explain which items need to be packed together. Give them guidance on where to place them in the new residence. Label items fragile if they are, and identify those items for the packers. This is a good time to show them where to pack the bags with all the cables, remotes, and cords. You will want to find them quickly when you are ready to take a break from unpacking.

As a full-service provider, we can pack your furniture as well. Any pieces of furniture that need to be disassembled can be done by the movers. Moving blankets are wrapped and secured around the furniture during the move to protect against damage. Even though the movers do a lot to protect your furniture, items sometimes get damaged in transit. Take pictures of your furniture before and after the move to verify any damage.

You can also have a crew unpack your items when they arrive at your home. They will unbox and set out items; you will need to do the organizing. Expect that you will find items spread throughout your house, because again, they will pack with an eye towards maximizing space, not with an eye towards the organization. After all your belongings have been unpacked, the crew will remove all the boxes and clean up the materials.
